FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common heating & cooling questions for San Diego, CA homeowners and businesses.
Allied Gardens, CA
Do you service Allied Gardens? +
Yes, and it's our home turf. Our shop is in the 92120 area. We're open Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with same-day appointments when the schedule allows.
Why is one bedroom in my Allied Gardens house always hotter than the rest? +
Almost always ductwork. These homes were built in the 1950s with systems sized for heating, and the duct layout often can't deliver enough air to the farthest rooms for cooling. Duct and airflow corrections usually solve it, and that costs considerably less than upsizing the whole system.
Is a heat pump a good choice in Allied Gardens? +
Often yes. The climate here is warm enough in summer and mild enough in winter that a single heat pump can handle both efficiently, replacing an aging furnace and air conditioner at once. We'll run the numbers for your home before recommending it.
Imperial Beach, CA
Do you service Imperial Beach? +
Yes. Imperial Beach is part of our regular south San Diego County service area, along with Chula Vista and National City. We're open Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with same-day appointments when the schedule allows.
How does living near the beach affect my air conditioner? +
Salt in the air corrodes condenser coils and cabinets from the outside in. A system that might last fifteen years inland can lose several years of service life within a few blocks of the sand. Regular coil cleaning and inspection makes a real difference, which is why we check coil condition on every visit.
My Imperial Beach home has no ductwork. What are my options? +
Ductless mini-splits are usually the best fit. They add genuine cooling and heating to a beach cottage, addition, or converted garage without opening up walls and ceilings for duct runs, and each zone gets its own temperature control.
La Jolla, CA
Do you service La Jolla? +
Yes. La Jolla is part of our regular coastal San Diego service area. We're open Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with same-day appointments when the schedule allows.
My La Jolla home has no air conditioning and no ductwork. What can I do? +
Ductless mini-splits are usually the best fit. They deliver room-by-room cooling and heating without the invasive work of adding ducts to an older home, which matters a great deal in La Jolla's older and architecturally distinctive housing.
Does being close to the ocean shorten the life of my system? +
It does. Salt air corrodes outdoor coils and cabinets, and properties within sight of the water typically lose several years of equipment life compared to inland homes. Performance usually declines gradually before anything fails outright, so regular coil inspection and cleaning is worth it here.
Miramar, CA
Is this Miramar in San Diego or Miramar, Florida? +
San Diego. Miramar is the light-industrial and commercial district in the city of San Diego, between Mira Mesa and Kearny Mesa, along Miramar Road and Camino Santa Fe. We serve San Diego County only.
Can you cool an entire warehouse? +
Sometimes, but often it isn't practical or cost-effective. Tall, lightly insulated buildings with roll-up doors lose conditioned air constantly. We usually get the best result by properly conditioning the offices, breakrooms, and control areas where people spend their time, and improving air movement and ventilation in the open bay.
Our rooftop unit keeps needing repairs. When should we replace it? +
When the annual repair spend plus lost productivity starts approaching the cost of new equipment, or when the unit uses a refrigerant that's getting expensive and hard to source. We'll give you the numbers for your specific unit rather than a generic rule.
Ocean Beach, CA
Do you service Ocean Beach? +
Yes. Ocean Beach is part of our regular coastal San Diego service area, along with neighboring Point Loma. We're open Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with same-day appointments when the schedule allows.
There's nowhere to put an air conditioner in my Ocean Beach bungalow. What are my options? +
Ductless mini-splits are designed for exactly this. The outdoor unit is compact enough for a narrow side yard, and indoor heads mount on the wall without needing ducts, an attic, or a mechanical closet, which is usually the deciding factor in an older beach cottage.
Do you work with rental property owners in Ocean Beach? +
Yes. A lot of the neighborhood is tenant-occupied, and we schedule around occupancy and document what was done on each visit. We'll also give you a candid read on whether a unit needs repair now or replacement at the next turnover.
Pacific Beach, CA
Do you service Pacific Beach? +
Yes. Pacific Beach is part of our regular coastal San Diego service area, along with neighboring La Jolla. We're open Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with same-day appointments when the schedule allows.
Can you install air conditioning in a Pacific Beach condo? +
Usually yes, with a ductless mini-split. The outdoor unit is compact enough for tight side yards and balconies, and no ductwork is required. We do recommend confirming your HOA's rules on exterior equipment before anything is ordered, and we're glad to help you document what's proposed.
Do you work with short-term rental owners? +
Yes. We schedule around occupancy and document each visit, which matters when a unit is turning over frequently. We'll also tell you candidly whether a system needs repair now or is better replaced during a gap between guests.
Point Loma, CA
Do you service Point Loma? +
Yes. Point Loma is part of our regular coastal San Diego service area. We're open Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with same-day appointments when the schedule allows.
Why does equipment seem to fail faster in Point Loma? +
The peninsula has water on three sides, so outdoor coils and cabinets take salt exposure from more directions and for more of the day than an inland home. Corrosion reduces capacity gradually, so systems often underperform for a while before anything actually breaks.
My Point Loma house feels damp even when it's not cold. What helps? +
That's usually humidity rather than temperature, and harbor air is the source. Improved filtration, correct system sizing so the equipment runs long enough to remove moisture, and in some cases dedicated dehumidification address it better than simply running the heat.
San Carlos, CA
Is this San Carlos near San Francisco or San Carlos in San Diego? +
San Diego. This is the San Carlos neighborhood in the city of San Diego, ZIP 92119, around Lake Murray and the base of Cowles Mountain. We serve San Diego County only, not the city of San Carlos in San Mateo County.
Do you service San Carlos? +
Yes, and we're close by. Our shop is in the adjacent 92120 area. We're open Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with same-day appointments when the schedule allows.
My west-facing rooms are always hotter. Do I need a bigger air conditioner? +
Usually not. Homes on the slopes toward Cowles Mountain take heavy afternoon sun, and the fix is typically better airflow to those rooms, duct sealing, and sometimes shading or attic insulation. Upsizing the system often makes comfort worse by causing it to short-cycle.
Sorrento Valley, CA
Do you service Sorrento Valley? +
Yes. Sorrento Valley is part of our San Diego commercial service area, along with neighboring Mira Mesa. We're open Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and planned maintenance can be scheduled around your operating hours.
Do you work on rooftop packaged units? +
Yes, that's the majority of what Sorrento Valley buildings run. We handle diagnostics, repair, replacement, and scheduled maintenance on rooftop equipment, and we provide written documentation of findings for facility and property managers.
Our server room keeps overheating. Can you help? +
Yes. Equipment rooms produce heat year-round and often outgrow the cooling installed during the original tenant build-out. A dedicated ductless system sized to the actual equipment load is typically the most reliable and efficient fix.
